A "Lifesaver on Wheels": The Mobile Stroke Unit
In addition to a comprehensive offering of hospital neuroscience services, Jefferson Health and the Bensalem Rescue Squad are proud to serve residents of Bensalem, Bristol Township, and Bristol Borough with the Mobile Stroke Unit (MSU). The MSU is the region’s first university-based, high-tech Mobile Stroke Unit. It works with emergency medical services, Jefferson Expert Telestroke (JET) physician team, and medical command physicians in the county.
The MSU is equipped with telemedicine capability, CT scanner and certified personnel—a “Brain Rescue Team”—who are trained to assess, test and treat patients in the field before they are transported to the emergency department, shaving precious minutes or hours off treatment time.
Thrombectomy Program at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital
This program allows Jefferson Torresdale Hospital to evaluate patients and perform endovascular thrombectomy (retrieval of a blood clot from a blood vessel in the brain) and providing effective post-procedural care. This means university-level thrombectomy treatment and care, which will have a significant impact for victims of ischemic stroke in our community.vThe program is led by M. Reid Gooch, MD, Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery, Vickie and Jack Farber Institute for Neuroscience at Jefferson.
