The highly talented staff at our Comprehensive Center for Weight-Loss Surgery has the expertise that brings effectiveness and safety to patient care. Our accomplished, board-certified surgeon in Jefferson Torresdale Hospital's bariatric service has an outstanding record of successfully providing general and laparoscopic surgery.

The Center’s bariatric professionals work closely with patients to monitor progress after surgery, helping patients to achieve steady and healthful weight loss. This may include help via support groups, psychological counseling, and nutritional counseling.

Luca Giordano, MD, FACS, Director of Bariatric Surgery/Bariatric Services, and Head of the Section on Minimally Invasive Surgery, at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital, earned his medical degree at the University of Rome and completed a residency in General Surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. He also completed a fellowship in Bariatric Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Dr. Giordano applies advanced robotic techniques when performing bariatric surgery, and treating abdominal conditions, including complex abdominal hernia with abdominal wall reconstructions. He routinely performs robotic and laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, including colon resection for cancer and foregut procedures for acid reflux.
He is certified by the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a fellow of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, a member of The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), and several international surgical societies. Dr. Giordano is also an author of several surgical book chapters.

Elena Brodsky, RD, LDN 

Elena is the Bariatric Program Coordinator, who is a Registered Dietitian by background. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition Science from Drexel University. Her specialty is weight loss surgery with over 20 years of experience and Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management. 

As the program’s coordinator, Elena is the primary contact for all bariatric patients throughout their weight loss journey. She meets with patients on their first visit, and as they prepare for their upcoming surgery, walks them through their preoperative appointments, provides ongoing support and follows up after their procedures. Elena also coordinates nutrition and psychologist visits, as well as medical clearances.

Rosanne Edenhart-Pepe, Ph. D 

Rosanne Edenhart-Pepe, Ph.D. is a board-certified Doctor of Psychology who is also a certified integrative medicine specialist. She received her doctorate from Washington University and Washington University Medical School in St Louis. Mo. and has over 20 years of experience in clinical psychology, cognitive-behavior change, and health management. 

At the Jefferson’s Torresdale Hospital Comprehensive Center for Weight Loss Surgery, Dr. Edenhart-Pepe conducts a psychological evaluation of bariatric candidates and counsels them through the life style changes necessary for their weight loss success. Together with our dietitian, she leads the monthly support group meetings. Her expertise helps patients with issues related to weight loss management, emotional health and wellbeing, health management, and motivation to improve movement and fitness. Additionally she is the senior partner in the Yardley practice, Meaningful Growth Associates.

Kathleen Levitt, RD, LDN 

Kathy is a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Dietetic Nutritionist is the state of Pennsylvania with over 20 years of experience providing nutrition counseling services in a variety of settings. Kathy has graduated from Penn State University, where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Nutrition. Kathy is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association, as well as the Pennsylvania Dietetic Association. 

Kathy has been specializing in bariatric surgery for over 10 years. Kathy believes that nutrition and weight loss play a key role in the prevention and treatment of disease. She enjoys the challenge of translating complex nutrition research into simple and realistic recommendations. Working with her patients to develop individualized nutrition plans and seeing them accomplish both short and long term goals is incredibly rewarding. Together with our psychologist, she leads our monthly support group meetings. 

Kathy enjoys helping others optimize the value of their health and well-being to live a longer and healthier life. Kathy’s goal is to provide you with the tools needed for long term success; however, she cannot do it without you!
